Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8 – “Protection through Mohanji’s eye card”

In the 9th and last story in Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8, we share a lovely experience narrated by  Ishrat from London on the power of Mohanji’s eye card. Looking at the eye card, connects us to Mohanji’s Consciousness ensuring a ring of protection that safeguards us from the simplest to the most complex situations in everyday life. This story is yet another true example of Mohanji’s presence without presence.

Protection through Mohanji’s eye card

by Ishrat, London

I came in connection with Mohanji not too long ago, just about 3 months back. However, in this short span of time I have become aware of the energy and power of Mohanji through various experiences that have happened since then, through inidividual Mai-Tri session, through group Mai-Tri session, through Power of Purity Meditations, etc.

Around the second week of February 2019, I came for a Mai-Tri Healing session with Subhasree in London. During the session, I heard about Mohanji for the first time. The experience from the healing session took me to a different level of connection and in my heart I became aware of such a powerful master as Mohanji. It was a blessing that I even received Mohanji’s eye card from Subhasree, who said by keeping this card with me I will constantly receive Mohanji’s protection as a shield. I gladly accepted it. I was even so lucky to receive the book ‘Guru Leela’, which had just been published at that time. After the powerful Mai-Tri session, I had returned home with the Guru Leela book and the eye card.  I somehow felt that I should keep Mohanji’s eye card in my car, so that Mohanji’s eyes will always be on me and I will keep receiving his protection.

This faith was proven to be true very soon. Let me tell you this unbelievable but true experience.

On Friday 17th May, I was on my way to a dinner invite and was driving on the M25 (a highway in UK).  On the passenger seat were several items I was taking with me. I keep Mohanji’s Eye Card in my car and always give a quick glance of gratitude, before I begin driving every day.

eye card

That particular day it was a ‘bumper to bumper’ situation on the motorway with only moments of less traffic as I passed some junctions; so it was quite an unpredictable drive.

Anyhow, for some reason, and just for mini seconds, I turned my gaze to the side and before I could even take my next breath, I’d hit the van in front of me.  Every item on the passenger seat were flung on to the floor on the car. It was such a loud bang that the cars behind me began indicating to leave the lane, thinking that the accident was going to cause long delays.

The man came out of his van and approached me, animated with anger. As I opened my car door to communicate, words failed me and I just looked at him. For some unknown reason, his demeanour completely changed suddenly.  He looked at my face and into the car and politely asked me if I was okay. He requested me to come out and see if my car was alright. I was 110% sure there would be a dent in his van as well as in mine.  I was stunned and words failed me initially. As soon as I could resume dialogue, it transpired there was not a single scratch on his van!  It was very surprising considering the force of the impact. I was in a state of shock and was eager to leave the place as quickly as possible. After checking if I was okay, he was happy to drive off. On reaching my destination, I checked my car. Astonishingly there was no damage to my car either.

The whole episode took me by surprise. The fact that the driver of the van who was initially very angry became very calm all of a sudden. Within moments, the driver’s expression and body language changed from anger to calmness. More over, there was not even a dent in either of our vehicles in spite of the loud collision. This was strange, no less than a miracle, to be honest.

On introspection, I realised it was the Mohanji’s eye card that I look at each day before driving that saved me that day. I understood then that it was the Grace and protection of Mohanji that ensured my safety with not a scratch on my car or the van which I had hit.  It was indeed a miracle.

The unseen hands of the Master protects us eternally. All  that I did was just look at Mohanji’s  eye card and this was the result. Amazing protection from a great Master!

Before I end my story, I would also like to share that after this incident, just a day after, in the weekend I happened to join a Group Mai-Tri session, where all the Mai-Tri practitioners were present and doing the sessions at one place together. I found this session to be incredible powerful. With multiple Mai-Tri practitioners connecting to Mohanji’s energy all at one physical location, had raised the frequency and level of energy in that room. Just by sitting there, I felt the therapeutic energy running through me at so many levels. I even experienced many sensations – tingling, waves, colours and above all immense peace and relaxation.

This was beyond my comprehension. I would like to express my gratitude to have received such amazing opportunities in experiencing the power and energy of Mohanji.

Thank you Mohanji for showering me with your grace!

Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8 – “A connection through time”

Mohanji

Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8  brings to you another beautiful story about the Guru. Meeta Sahai recounts her experiences of meeting Mohanji and the experiences that led her to consider Him to be her Guru. She then realised that this connection was older and deeper than she could ever imagine!

A connection through time

By Meeta Sahai, India

I first got to know about Mohanji when I read one of His interviews in “The Speaking Tree.” I’m not sure why, but the interview stayed with me.

In 2016, I was going through a lot of turmoil in my life. That is when I decided to start meditating, to give me some peace of mind. I went online and I found the Power of Purity (PoP) meditation by Mohanji. I started doing PoP every day and read a lot of blogs by Mohanji. I also got in touch with one of Mohanji’s followers in my city and attended a few meditation sessions at her place.

It became that my day would begin and end thinking of Mohanji. I desperately wanted to meet Him. In 2017, Mohanji came to Mumbai in June, and I was invited for the retreat with Him. I met Him for the first time and He asked me to stay connected with His close followers in the city.

I attended another satsang with Mohanji in August 2017. In January 2018, I was initiated into Kriya, together with my husband. Each time I met Mohanji, I just felt happy and loved. The same year, encouraged by Preethi, my husband and I decided to visit Bosnia for the Kriya Intensive programme. At that time, it felt more of a holiday for us!

We first had a satsang in Zagreb, in Croatia before leaving for Bosnia. When Mohanji came to meet us after the satsang, everyone touched His feet but I could not bring myself to do the same. I loved and admired Mohanji but there was still a slight hesitation in my mind.

On the second day of our Bosnian pilgrimage, we climbed the Pyramid of Moon, where Mohanji and Deviji took us through certain breathing exercises and meditation. The Pyramid of Moon, I was told, was a female energy centre. While doing the meditation, I became aware of the form of Kali and Durga (manifestations of Shakti or the female energy) standing in front of me! I was completely overwhelmed and started to cry, something I rarely do. I felt a great burden being lifted from me, and I could clearly understand the greatness of Mohanji who appeared and behaved like an ordinary man in front of us.

When the meditation was over, I went looking around for Mohanji who was standing at a distance. I fell at His feet crying. All barriers were broken at that moment when I realized I have found my Guru. Mohanji picked me up lovingly and blessed me. From that moment on, I felt a deep connection with Him.

mohanji CK

Back from Bosnia, I wondered how it was possible for me to have such a Master in my life! I got my answer when I met Devi Amma, who told me that I had a very long-standing connection with Mohanji. She told me that in one of my past lives, I had been one of those present when Agastaya Rishi’s wife Lopamudra, had distributed prasad (sanctified devotional offering) to all those who were present! I believe that it is a result of that blessing and going through lots of pain in subsequent lives, that I have been able to meet my Guru in this Life!

Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8 – “Heart to Heart”

Mohanji quote on heart

“I love you and I am with you. I wish through your dedication, consistency, commitment, conviction and continuity in action, you will not only touch the lives of many beings positively but also walk the path of liberation with firm unshakeable determination. Live liberated through acceptance and service. Leave liberated through devotion and surrender.” Mohanji

Mohanji’s beautiful message is a reminder for all of us to love and serve with selflessness and gratitude. Dr. Wasir shares with us how a day in his busy life as a heart surgeon changed unexpectedly and what experiences he had. With Mohanji’s grace, he serves with increasing awareness and clarity. Love unites us all, beyond any external factors. Enjoy this sharing and read similar stories in Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8.

Heart to Heart

By Dr. Harpreet Wasir

The operating list for the next day was out the previous night and I was to operate on an elderly lady with heart disease. The next morning at 6 am, I reached the Intensive Care Unit well prepared, only to realise that the case had been changed due to an emergency. I came to know that I was now to operate on a young gentleman who had recently suffered a heart attack. Not just that, I also found out that he was a tourist from Korea who had developed chest pain and had reached our Emergency Unit.  Investigations and diagnosis revealed that he required immediate surgery.

Suddenly everything had changed!

From an Indian to a Korean.

From a regular operation to an emergency operation.

From an elderly patient to a young patient.

It was 7 am and the patient was on the table ready for the surgery. As always, I took some time out in a secluded place before the surgery and holding my hands, prayed to Mohanji, “These are your hands. Guide my hands to deliver ‘You’ to all you send to me.” More so as this patient was not on my list and it was His divine will as always.

I entered the operation theater with clarity of thought yet conscious of having an international Korean patient before me.  I started the surgery with clear and proper planning. Once the main part of the operation was over, something strange took over the thoughts in my mind as I was looking at the beating heart in my hands. I immediately felt so much love for the heart which was beating in my hands. Then the thought came to me that throughout the surgery it never occurred to me that I was operating on a Korean international patient. On seeing the heart, I felt that it looked no different from any other heart I operate upon daily.  All are the same bearing absolutely no difference.

Heart surgery
A heart surgery in progress

The important point was how we as intellectual humans have divided humans based on caste, creed, race, religions, communities, countries and colour, being totally unaware of the fact that from inside we are all the same. We share the same colour of blood and have the same beautiful organs gifted by God, without any distinction at all. We have the same common faculty of LOVE within us, without any discrimination.

It’s only by the Guru’s grace that this Mohanji family stands as one with the common factor of ‘Love within all, and all for, and within love.’

Heart and mind

Simply speaking, an English heart looks, feels and beats the same as an Asian, American or any other Continental heart. The hug to the Korean brother felt the same as a hug to anyone else. That is the main teaching of Mohanji for me and to all of us. We are all the same and we share the same faculty of love for all. The feeling was one of love as I served the Korean brother, just like one of us.

All I can say is that it is entirely Mohanji’s grace, which keeps transforming minds until we all reach liberation, giving us absolute solace for our souls. He’s always there for all of us, holding our hands and helping us to HEAL BEYOND BOUNDARIES!

Dr Wasir

“I am always with you. Whenever you are serving the world, you are serving me. We are the world. Remain the soothing breeze over the scorching existentialist pains of generations. Your highest and greatest message is your own life. Script a great life ahead through meaningful existence of selflessness, sacrifice and service. A life lived selfishly, complaining, criticising, judging and not accepting oneself and others are not worth it at all. Lead by example. Create a better society, rooted in compassion, kindness, love and care. I am always with you. I have always been. I will always be. Be practical. Be spiritual. Be natural. Be you. You are your highest message.” Mohanji

Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8 – “A state of Expanded Consciousness”

consciousness

In this 6th story of Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8, we have a beautiful sharing by Ilina, who found that connecting to the Master helped her overcome a deep-seated emotional trauma in her life. Through the process of ignoring her mind’s negative chatter and surrendering her expectations, she had a wonderful experience which helped her momentarily see the underlying Consciousness in all creation. Read other inspiring stories from Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8!

 By Ilina Vedran, Macedonia

At the age of 14, I faced a big trauma in my life, which left a deep emotional mark on me. That was the reason I started to explore spirituality. For a long time, I worked to overcome the trauma and thought that I could fully get over it. However, there was still one part of the experience that pulled me back whenever I faced certain situations in which my security was questioned.

After my retreat with Mohanji, I felt deep cleansing of emotions but underwent hits to my ego, which were unpleasant. At one moment, the situation calmed down. At that point, I thought it was all over, but unknown to me, it was just a preparation for a bigger test that was about to happen.

One day I woke up feeling anxious. I had a feeling as if there was a time bomb inside me that could explode at any moment. To diffuse the anxiety, I started to do meditations and tried breathing techniques, but nothing helped.  The feeling was so intense that it started to reflect on my relationship with my son. He started to become furious and expressed that anger onto me.  I became aware that there was something big being expressed, and that Mohanji was guiding me through the process. That evening I sat down to meditate and suddenly I realised the reason for the situation that I was in. It was the trauma from my childhood – my mother’s death, which I thought I had got over. I felt so heavy, I couldn’t breathe. There was an unbearable pain in my heart. I decided to text Mohanji.

Mohanji on emotions

The next morning, I saw His reply when I awoke. Mohanji’s message to me said that this issue had a long history and that it was being repeated over and over. He recommended me to get Mai-Tri treatment and to speak to Devi. After reading His message, I felt disappointed and my mind started to make up stories like “He can’t help me; that’s why He was sending me to Devi.” I took a conscious decision to ignore those thoughts and I did write to Devi. However, for whatever reasons, Devi did not reply. This, I felt, was another test of my faith. My mind kept coming up with doubts and negative thoughts. In one moment, my mind’s chatter said to forget Mohanji, but on the other side, deep inside me, I realised that my mind was feeding me illusions.

Mohanji on Oneness

I decided to turn off my phone and stop looking for answers. I sat down to meditate. During the meditation, I started asking myself: “Why am I alone?” Suddenly I felt intense energy, after which all the emotions were cleared, and what was left was a strong pain in my chest. I continued with my daily routine, but before going to bed, I again sat to meditate. Some intuitive force was guiding me through the meditation.

Then, all of a sudden, in my mind, my mother appeared in front of me. Many times I said to her, “You are free, go to the light,” but this time, something happened! I felt strong energy in my heart centre, and got a feeling as if something was taken away from there! Immediately, I fell asleep.

The next morning, I was feeling amazing peace! As I put my hand on my chest, I felt physical pain on the front of my chest, as though I had a bruise. However, I continued with my day without feeling any further pain. I was taking my child to a cinema, in a mall. As we were walking towards the mall, my awareness was different from how it had been before. After I dropped off my son, I decided to go shopping.

As I walked in the mall, I began feeling a lightness in my stomach centre, that rapidly spread over my whole body. Then, something unfamiliar started happening to me. I was aware of my body, but did not feel bound to it! I had a feeling that I was all over the mall. My mind pulled me to enter one shop, and I started to touch the clothes, but nothing that had a form, neither objects nor people attracted my attention. Everything was the same for me: insignificant! No material object could occupy my awareness.

Mohanji on concepts

At this point, my mind got confused, so I decided to leave the mall and started walking back home. On the way, I saw a white pigeon, which didn’t fly away when I came close. In the tradition that I was brought up in, a white pigeon is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Deep inside me, I felt Mohanji’s consciousness and became aware that I was feeling so peaceful as never before. Everything that had happened before, came into my mind and it was crystal clear to me that I didn’t need any information from outside, because deep inside I knew the truth.  Mohanji just took my attention so that He could help me, to work on me, and in no moment did He leave me alone.

Thinking back, I understand that I had to drop my expectations and to surrender, in order for the change to take place. The scenario of Devi’s non-response was arranged for my own good. It is always thus, but our mind’s chatter takes us away from the truth. Mohanji, on a subtle level, continually brings us face to face us with the Truth. His consciousness is always with us because it is part of us. Since I met Him, I have stopped caring about the things that have a form. I have not tried to analyse who He is, because something was intuitively pulling me to Him. I felt His unconditional love, and I realised that I was feeling my own true Self. His love is awakening love within me, a deep love that exists behind the noise of the mind. His presence reminds me of the things that I forgot when I came into this world: my real I.

After this experience, the sense of being-ness is getting awakened in me every day. It is an unexplainable feeling of lightness and love.

As Mohanji says, “If it passes, it is just an experience, but if it stays, it is yours.”

Temptations and emotions do come up from time to time, but for me, they do not have a significant meaning any more. I know that behind all of them is the Consciousness that connects me to Mohanji. I am that Consciousness, we all are.

Thank You Mohanji for showing me where to look, in order to reach the joy of my being!

Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8 – “A Mother’s concern”

state of guru

Our beloved Parabrahma is not only a Master, but plays varied roles as a mother, a father, a friend, a son and so on. He understands our instincts and carries us through the turbulence that occur in our lives. He takes care of incidents that may seem impossible for the mind to comprehend! He bestows His unconditional love and compassion on each one of us, protecting us and holding us in His embrace. All that is required is faith and conviction that the Master will never let go of our hands!

Aniss had some concerns regarding her daughter and she narrates how beautifully Mohanji took care in this story in Mohanji Satcharita Chapter 8.

A Mother’s concern

By Aniss

I had come back to Pune from another country last year. Once in Pune, I enrolled my daughter in a similar school that she used to attend abroad. However, we stumbled upon a problem. CBSE Board in India makes a study of the language Hindi compulsory and my daughter could not speak a word of Hindi. She had never studied the language, ever! Understandably, I was extremely worried about her situation and wondered how she would cope. There was no way that she would be able to clear the Hindi exam.

It so happened that soon enough I met Mohanji during one of His trips to Mumbai. It was an amazing experience indeed being in His divine presence. I explained to Him the problem being faced by my daughter. I told Him how I was worried that my daughter may not be able to pass the Hindi language examination. I added that I did not want her to fail in Grade 9 because of this. She didn’t even know the Hindi letters!

Mohanji told me, “Don’t worry. Tell her to focus on studying. I am with her. She will pass the 9th grade.”

Soon my daughter began her schooling in Pune and also started taking private lessons for Hindi, but her progress was very slow. It is not easy trying to learn a new language beginning with the alphabets. Moreover she was in Grade 9 and the requirements of the language were obviously higher. Exams were soon approaching!

The final exams were imminent and she was just not ready for her Hindi examination. Through sheer hard work, she had gained enough proficiency in the language to pass the 5th grade exam, but not the 9th. The only thing that kept us going was Mohanji’s assurance. Our faith remained in Mohanji’s promise that she will pass this subject anyway.

It turned out that this year’s exam was tougher than usual and many students were not happy with the results. My daughter too believed she might not get through.

When the results were announced, we discovered that she actually obtained a passing score in Hindi! It so happened that she had earned a few marks lower than the passing grade, but since the Principal was aware of her situation, the school decided to grant her additional marks and move her to the next grade! She was able to go to Grade 10!  I was amazed and humbled when I learnt about this!

I understood immediately that it was the Master’s grace and compassion that helped us through this situation. The seemingly impossible task was made possible by Mohanji! Before I met Mohanji and shared my problem, I worried about the outcome of this. But that one sentence from Him gave me so much assurance and I laid all my worries at His feet.

I know that when we surrender our life to Mohanji and have faith in Him, we do not have to be worried about anything.

Read Mohanji’s blog on the Sun and the Man!

Mohanji Satcharita – Chapter 8 – “Silent grace and protection”

mohanji on truth

Lakshmi Nair’s faith in Mohanji came  to her rescue when she was in a fix over a situation in her regular life. The very thought of Mohanji, a silent appeal to her beloved guru Mohanji, saved her day! Many of us may have gone through an experience similar to this.  Enjoy this beautiful sharing and read more such heart warming stories from Mohanji Satcharita Chapter 8.

Silent grace and protection

By Lakshmi Nair

With deep gratitude for everything that I have been given, I would like to share how Mohanji never leaves the hand of His devotees whenever we think of Him.

One weekday evening, I got a call from a friend to whom I had transferred money via Western Union. I had unintentionally thrown away the receipt after the transfer of money and hence did not have the transaction number which was needed for her to withdraw the cash. When she called, she was waiting by the vendor and asked me to provide her with the transaction number. I was in a fix since I knew the receipt was gone along with the transaction number which was mandatory for withdrawal, and they also don’t accept any other form of identification.  I couldn’t help her at that moment, so I told her I will get back to her.

Grace

That evening I canceled my evening plans and went to a Western Union vendor near my house.  The agent there told me there was nothing that could be done at that point since the money was already gone; however, she provided me with a customer hotline number just in case if they could help.  All kinds of wild thoughts raced through my mind, and I couldn’t believe all the money that I had sent was just gone!!!  I mentally prayed and promised to Mohanji that if I received the money back without any charges, I will post this leela of His as a testimonial.  With thoughts of Mohanji on my mind, I immediately called  Western Union and a very kind lady assisted me.  At first, she was reluctant to give any support, but with persistence, she agreed to refund the money and give back the transaction charges.  She gave me a gentle warning to not lose the transaction number again. I was over the moon and thanked Mohanji from the bottom of my heart, as this was only possible by His grace.  I received the money back from the vendor the next day and I sent it once again to my friend, but this time kept the transaction number with me. 🙂

As promised to dear Mohanji, I write this leela to express my gratitude and to show that, He is omnipresent and is always there holding your hand when you need Him. Thank you for your grace Mohanji.

Nine ways to connect with the Guru

who-is-mohanji

By Shyama Jeyaseelan

Mohanji says, “The human mind needs forms to associate with. This is fundamental. It recognizes forms and connects to forms. Human constitution uses all faculties such as body, mind, and intellect to connect to the chosen form. And when the connection through faith increases, individual personality takes a back seat. The individual starts to merge with the object of worship. Non-duality happens. When oneness takes root, often the need for any of the individual faculties that the individual used for the primary connection also becomes redundant. Everything dissolves into oneness.”

In May 2018, towards the end of the Kriya Intensive programme and Volunteers Meet in Bosnia, some of us were sharing our experiences with Mohanji in the main satsang hall. Seated in a circle, heartfelt feelings and emotions were shared, all of us totally absorbed in Mohanji’s love and compassion. When it was my turn, I sang a bhajan that was close to my heart, one that I sing often at home to Mohanji. The words are simple yet so beautiful.

You are the centre of my life my Lord, You are the centre of my day

I open my heart to You and pray for Your grace

I feel the power of Your love my Lord, I feel the power of Your love

I open my heart to You and pray for Your grace.

Mohanji feet
The Guru’s feet

As I finished, Deviji who was also seated with us said with a lovely smile, “I am looking forward to meeting all the bhakti yogis in London soon.” A visit by Mohanji, Deviji, and little Mila was already planned to take place in August 2018 and we were all counting the days for their arrival with much excitement, looking forward to having them with us.

During their stay in London, many of us had the privilege of spending some time with Mohanji, Deviji, and Mila. So many beautiful moments, full of grace and joy, filled our days. Those few days flew by quickly and it was time to say good bye too soon. Afterwards, as I read the blogs and testimonials from others, I realised how each of us experienced Mohanji’s presence and love in our own unique way. We may have all been with Him at the same time during the same programme or event, but each one of us experienced Him according to our own constitution, perception, and eligibility.

During this visit, every moment I spent with Mohanji gave me a different emotion to the feeling of devotion. I recently read a beautiful article on ‘Nava vidha bhakti,’ the 9 forms of devotion, and realised that I had experienced these beautiful emotions and recognised them as such, purely because of Mohanji’s grace.

It is said that of the different types of yoga, bhakti yoga is the easiest way to reach the Lord in the Kaliyuga. When devotion and love for the Lord are pure, free from conditions, desires, and ego, transformation happens within. We become the instrument of the Lord. Through writing this article, I pray that my love for Mohanji becomes deeper and purer. May devotion fill my days and bring positive transformations within me.

The 9 forms of devotion which we feel and experience towards our Guru or God are shravanam, kirtanam, smaranam, paada sevanam, archanam, vandanam, daasyam, saakhyam, and aatma nivedanam.

1. Shravanam (Listening to the names and glories of God)

The first in the nine forms of devotion, shravanam is to listen to the divine glories of our Guru or God. As we listen and contemplate on His words, qualities, and divine plays, our mind merges with the thoughts of divinity. With easy access to social media, listening to satsangs, bhajans, and songs, seeing messages on whatsapp or Facebook were all tools for me to listen or read about Mohanji throughout the day. Listening to His teachings, seeing His messages and reading others’ experiences were all ways for me to connect to Him while being away from His physical presence. Planning His visit with the UK team was exciting and that itself was a satsang too. As I constantly listened and contemplated on Mohanji, love and reverence subconsciously grew and I also realised that these thoughts were purifying me in tangible and subtle ways.

As we cultivate a yearning to listen to His glory and teachings with faith, and as we practise what we have learnt, the act of shravanam helps us evolve in the journey of spirituality.

2. Kirtanam (Chanting the glories of God)

In the second form of devotion, kirtanam, one sings the glory of Guru or God with devotion. Whenever we recite or chant His name and sing His glory from the heart, we automatically become joyous; our hearts are filled with love, not just for our dearest Guru, but towards all those who are around us. Continuous chanting has the power to elevate us.

At the UK retreat, we had bhajans at the end of each day. Even if He was tired, Mohanji would stay and listen to everyone’s offering of love to Him, have a satsang with us afterwards, before retiring to His room. One of the highlights was to actually listen to Mohanji sing ‘Garuda Gamana’ with one of the devotees. We were all mesmerised, listening to His beautiful voice, giving such joy not only to the devotee He sang with but to all those who were assembled there.

One evening, we chanted the Sri Rudram in Mohanji’s presence. This chanting is done in praise of Lord Shiva and I was reminded of chanting it at the holy banks of Manasarovar and also during the parikrama of Kailash. Lord Shiva who was silent and majestic in Kailash had taken the form of the compassionate and loving Mohanji who was physically in the room with us.  Although thousands of miles apart, the innocence, divinity, and purity that I felt was the same in both occasions, and I felt so blessed to have Mohanji there with us while chanting. None of us wanted these evenings to end!

 3. Smaranam (Remembering God)

Smaranam is the third form of devotion where one constantly remembers their Guru or God and His divine qualities. It is said that namasmarana, the constant chanting, and remembrance of the divine will help us attain liberation. Remembering and chanting the name of our loving Guru, remembering His compassionate form, seeing divinity in nature are all ways of remembering Mohanji’s presence in my life.

Whether it’s chanting the Mohanji Gayatri, Healing Gayatri or singing devotional songs/bhajans, I feel that simply knowing/remembering that He’s always with me, keeps me connected to Him, making life the joyous journey it is. As faith and devotion increase, surrendering my actions to Him becomes second nature and from small miracles to large, I feel Mohanji’s presence throughout the day. As acceptance and patience increases, pain and suffering are greatly reduced and I am able to face life with equanimity more and more.

4. Paada sevanam (Serving the Lord’s feet)

In the fourth form of devotion, paada sevanam, one worships their Guru or God by surrendering all actions at His feet and serving Him. Recognising that a true Guru is connected to the supreme consciousness, worshiping the paaduka (sanctified sandals) is also a form of paada sevanam.

In the Indian tradition, people often refer to the Guru or God’s feet as paada pankajam (lotus feet), as they are described as soft and beautiful like the petals of a lotus. During this visit, we had the incredible opportunity of doing Paada puja to Mohanji’s feet. It was such a sacred event and all those who took part felt so blessed. Mohanji explained the significance of this sacred ritual and graciously allowed us to wash, decorate and do aarati to His feet. It was a dream come true, something many of us had yearned for but had not expected to happen.

Bowing down at the feet of someone shows humility and lack of ego. As we bow down at the feet of our dearest Guru with an innate sense of surrender, we recognise His divinity and pray that He will grant us protection and lead us from the many bindings of life to freedom in existence.

5. Archanam (Worshipping God)

In the fifth form of devotion, archanam, one makes an ‘offering’ of love to their Guru or God. It may be ritualistic worship where food, flowers, and many other materialistic items are offered. It can also be singing bhajans, chanting the sahasranamam (1000 names), ashtothram (108 names) or doing aarati, which are all forms of archanam. When the rituals are combined with internal meditation and awareness, our hearts and minds are purified.

While Mohanji was in London, I had the opportunity to make some of His meals along with a few other devotees. Cooking is usually not my passion, but making food for Mohanji is a blessing I will always cherish. I can only imagine this would be how Yashoda felt when she made food for Krishna! Mohanji’s enjoyment of simple food is lovely to witness. The times I spent in the kitchen gave me such a close connection to Mohanji. Nothing else existed apart from Him. In those moments I was not a parent, wife, sister or daughter. There was no personality, just an amazing feeling of not existing as a person with ego, etc., but being an empty instrument for divinity to work through. This state of perpetual meditation which seemed beyond my reach seems a little closer to attain now, a state I should attempt to be in, throughout the day.

My archanam or offering while Mohanji was here in the physical form for a few fleeting days has enabled me to surrender and offer all my actions to Him even when He’s physically not present. Expressing our love for Him and connecting to Him with mind and heart, all our actions become sacred when offered at the feet of the Guru.

6. Vandanam (Offering obeisance to God)

The sixth form of devotion is reverential prayer, vandanam, to our Guru or God. Prayer is a language of the heart and when expressed with sincerity and love, it becomes an intensely personal process which elevates us.  There are many types of prayers; of gratitude, for the well-being of others, for peace, etc.

Prayers and chanting have become a part of life and I realise Mohanji purifies us in subtle ways when we undertake these actions with the correct intent. Whether it’s chanting, singing or simply talking to Mohanji in my mind and seeing answers to my questions or thoughts through someone or something, my faith in prayers has increased manifold. Whether it’s an internal dialogue or an outward expression, prayers make me feel more close to Mohanji. I share an incident here which showed me again He knows everything that we think, say or do, that we always live in the presence of divinity.

On the last night before Mohanji’s family left, I was feeling so sad. I sent a text message to the host family saying, “Tomorrow morning will be the last meal with Mohanji for a while.” I had not asked to help make breakfast as I knew someone else was bringing food in the morning but went to help with other things. Just a short time before leaving for the airport, Mohanji said, “Let’s have some uppma.” I thought He was joking as He knew someone was bringing breakfast and said, “Mohanji, are you serious?” He replied with a smile “I never joke about food.” As we rushed about in the kitchen with last minute preparations, I realised that Mohanji knew my thoughts and feelings and in His usual compassionate way, asked me to make something to make me happy. Always so caring and loving, He spreads joy in every possible way. That morning we had two different items for breakfast, blessed by Mohanji!

 7. Daasyam (Serving God as His servant)

In the seventh form of devotion, daasyam, one aspires to be of personal service to their Guru or God. With no sense of inferiority, one yearns to serve the Guru as well as His devotees. Only those who are trustworthy, truly humble and are not self-centred are given this boon and it’s amazing to see Mohanji’s interaction with such beautiful people. He’s so relaxed and happy in the midst of those who love Him unconditionally and serve Him selflessly.

Serving Guru in any way is a blessing of lifetimes
Serving Guru in any way is a blessing of lifetimes

Hanuman’s devotion to Lord Rama is a great example of daasyam. I have heard Mohanji speak of Hanuman with so much love and share here a story He narrated a couple of years ago. When Valmiki completed the epic Ramayana, Sage Narada who read it said that Hanuman’s Ramayana was better. Valmiki was not happy that a ‘monkey’ had also written a Ramayana and wanted to find out if it was indeed better.

Valmiki found Hanuman in Kadali-vana (plantain grove) and the Ramayana inscribed on the broad plantain leaves. Reading it, he found it to be exquisite and unable to help himself, started to cry. When Hanuman asked if it was that bad, Valmiki replied he was crying because it was so beautiful and no one would read his Ramayana once they read Hanuman’s Ramayana.

Hearing this Hanuman simply tore up the banana leaves and said, no one will read Hanuman’s Ramayana. You wrote it so that the world remembers you, but I wrote it so that I remember Ram.” Hearing this story of Hanuman’s pure love for Lord Rama in Mohanji’s mesmerising voice was simply amazing and it brought tears to my eyes.

Even now, when I think back to this moment, I feel so humbled to be a part of Mohanji’s family, receiving His love and grace, and pray that such intense devotion and purity wells within me too.

8. Saakhyam (Developing friendship with God)

In the eighth form of devotion, saakhyam, the devotee considers the Guru or God as their friend. An example of this is Lord Krishna’s childhood in Vrindavan. He spent the days playing with his friends and taking care of the cows. His friends would chase him while playing, massage his legs while resting and feed him food with love. Their love for Krishna was complete. Mohanji is also our true friend, who accepts us as we are, with no judgements or expectations, interacting with us with pure love.

It is always a joy to see Mohanji relaxing at times, away from His back to back programmes. One evening after Mohanji had retired to His room, a couple of us were talking about a song that Mohanji really likes and we were listening to it on you tube.  The next morning while having breakfast, He started talking about the song as if He’d been there during our conversation! Then He asked us to play that song and started to sing along with Sonu Nigam (a famous Indian singer), His deep voice perfectly complementing the singer’s higher pitch. Very sweetly, Mohanji would explain the meaning of the song to me between singing the verses, as I was the only person there who didn’t understand the language. It was a privilege to see Mohanji’s carefree attitude and joyous singing. How blessed we are to have the eternal friendship of our Guru.

9. Aatma nivedanam (Total surrender of oneself to the Lord)

In the ninth form of devotion, aatma nivedanam, the devotee surrenders completely to the will of the Guru or God with no trace of ego. The devotee if completely filled with devotion, gains the knowledge of his true self and becomes one with the divine and all aspects of His creation. When we offer everything to our Guru with equanimity, we become His instruments, and the Guru takes complete care. He knows what is right for us, all we need is trust and full faith.

Being Mohanji’s instrument – In the consciousness of Mohanji

Mohanji is a living example of simplicity and humility. He teaches us by being a true inspiration. Mohanji encourages us to serve with love and humility, not just those who visit Him or are in His fold, but all beings of the earth, to the best of our capacity. By cultivating love and serving the needy, we realise the existence of divinity in all forms.

Taking up one or a number of these paths to connect with our beloved Guru, understanding the path and following it with faith and consistency, we can make our lives purposeful and meaningful.  We become the pure instruments of the Guru, spreading unity, purity, and divinity to the world.

“Worshipping the Guru, considering him as representing the Lord Almighty or personification of the Lord is definitely the path of those who are inclined to Bhakti or devotional path of spirituality.”   Mohanji
