Lessons living with Mohanji – Days 27 & 28

Day 27 Lesson – Harmony and Ahimsa️ at home 

Good morning, everybody. I hope you’re doing well. 

Today, I wanted to share an aspect of Mohanji’s core living teachings: Ahimsa or non-violence. The morning was really nice; it was sunny; it was calm, very peaceful. I went to see Mohanji in the morning to talk about daily activities. He was also equally calm today. He was writing a piece in response to a request for a magazine article. 

He had the window open. So in the room, he has his chair, and he faces the door as you come in. Just to the left of him, there’s a nice window. In the morning, he raises the blind, and he opens the window. He has a clear eyeshot of the trees outside and the neighbouring piece of the garden from his chair. 

This is where every morning, the birds come, and they’ll stay for the morning time with Mohanji. They’ll sit there on the branches. Many come to see him, they have their breakfast, as I’ve mentioned before, and then they stay for some time. Even the squirrels, they’re enthusiastic to see him too. 

In the morning, he sat there with the window open so that they could come and see him, and they’re happy and content. So each morning, this happens; they have their food, and they stay for some time. It’s a very calm, harmonious atmosphere. 

Today, there was a bit of silence, so we listened to the birds for a bit. They were making really interesting sounds, sounds of deep contentment as they chirped and sang from the trees. They had their food. Mohanji spoke that this is their way of showing gratitude. They understand where the food has come from and from where it has been given. 

He said, “When you listen carefully, and you become more attuned to nature, you can actually feel the communication.” Most of the time, we’re not so aware of it because we’re so busy within, so occupied with our mind. But he says that when beings around the house are happy and peaceful, and when they are content, that brings grace to the home. So by serving them, giving them food, by giving them contentment, they bring grace to the house.

I can relate this back to Ahimsa or non-violence, that Mohanji practices and lives. Even now, when I speak to him, he always says that he doesn’t want to bind anyone; he thinks people should be completely free to experience whatever they want in life. If somebody wants to drink, that’s fine. If they want to go out and party, that’s fine. If they want to do something else, that’s fine. He has no real interest in that, from the point of view of right or wrong. He thinks everyone should have the free will to do whatever they want. Because in the end, it’s the individual who will be paying for whatever they’re doing, either through their body or through whatever else they’re accruing. 

The one condition that he does say is that whatever activity is done, it should not harm another being. So anything is fine, provided it’s consensual and non-harmful, non-violent. This is the main reason why he practices veganism, because of all the violence and the exploitation of millions of beings across the world, just for somebody else’s taste, just for somebody else’s satisfaction. So, he is against all the cruelty that’s involved, the suffering, and the violence. That’s why he promotes and practices veganism. 

He spoke a little bit more about this today because of his interaction with the birds. We are, as a being, constantly transmitting who we are, whether we’re aware of it or not. So what’s inside us, we’re transmitting out to the world, we’re projecting out as a subtle frequency. We’re constantly transmitting our own personal frequency, which is made up of our patterns, inclinations, habits, or attitudes towards life.

As we were speaking, when I thought about this, this is why we have a good or bad feeling about some people. There’s an intelligence that helps us pick up these subtle frequencies, and we say that we have a gut feeling about right or wrong or what this type of person is like. So he said when we consistently start to practice Ahimsa, we start to become that, we start to become more peaceful, we start to become less violent. Then the more receptive animals start to respond to that and begin to feel safe. So this is the interaction that’s happening. 

I’m sure many people have experienced this with animals and themselves, or even witnessed it, where sometimes animals are attracted to certain people more than others, or you see dogs barking at some people for no reason. So they’re picking up on this feeling. The birds outside, all the animals outside, they’re giving this contentment, they’re singing these songs, they’re showing their gratitude to Mohanji, which he accepts. 

Today as well, something I didn’t quite pick up on, but there was a bit of maybe a divine play happening because the smell of sandalwood appeared in the room from nowhere. I didn’t notice this myself as I have a blocked nose, but somebody else did. It caught their attention. Mohanji simply smiled and said that this is for the animals, they will be able to smell this, and it’s an acknowledgement of their gratitude. 

For me, the lesson witnessed was the tangible scenario where the projection and the transmission out to the world of peace, contentment, and non-violence are being given back. I’m thinking now; it’s really important to cultivate that non-violent lifestyle – to have a peaceful existence and a peaceful lifestyle. So bringing these principles more into my life and doing as much as I can to practice them, I can bring more of that back and have that reciprocated back from the outside world. As I can see and witness, Mohanji is already there in that state, which is why he sees all the animals respond to him with such affection, safety, and love.

Day 28 Lesson – The do’s and don’ts of life

Good morning, everybody. 

Today, I wanted to talk about rights and wrongs, or the dos and don’ts of society. Since spending time with Mohanji, I’ve understood more about his perspective and how he sees things differently. Because when I’m speaking with Mohanji, and when he’s also speaking with others, he’s operating from a very different perspective: karmic completion, which means the fulfillment of experiences, which sometimes may not completely fit into societal norms. 

For example, when we do things in life, or when we want to do something in life, maybe our friends have opinions, or families might have opinions about what’s right and wrong. Even the larger society in which we live might have those opinions. But Mohanji is very open; for him, there’s no real right or wrong; there’s only experience. He is not interested in our personal decisions or actions, provided that there’s no violence, that whatever the activity is, that it’s consensual, that there is agreement. 

This is actually quite a nice way of seeing those things. It puts the responsibility fully on ourselves, as he says, “Why would I be interested in what you do or don’t do? As long as it’s not hurting, it’s fine, as long as it’s not causing violence.” Because ultimately, it’s us who’s paying the price for whatever we do; he has nothing to do with that. So we have a responsibility. 

As I spend more time with Mohanji, I understand this more. It’s given more clarity. But before spending time with him, I had some worries and concerns; if I was doing something right or doing something wrong, what would maybe Mohanji think? Does it fit in with the teachings?

I was involved in many things in normal life, like travelling, going out with friends, drinking, partying, the usual. For some reason, I had this tension inside whether what I was doing was right, if it was spiritual. Sometimes, I would even think about whether this would be accepted by Mohanji or by the Mohanji family. Looking back, it seems silly. But I remember it being a real worry at that time. 

And since living with him, it’s actually a relief to gain that clarity and understand that really there is no right or wrong, there’s only experience. He said that he couldn’t stop anyone’s experience because that is their free will. But he reminds us, everything comes with a price. 

Before I recorded this message, I asked Mohanji this morning; I didn’t want to give people the wrong impression that it’s fine to do absolutely anything you want and just descend into anarchy. But it’s the main learning from Mohanji that anything consensual is okay. That’s fine. So it is an agreement. I think most people or many people would automatically think of sex in that respect. This is definitely one aspect of it. But Mohanji considers this very minor because it’s connected just to our instinct for him. But for him, consensual is agreement. 

He gave the example of nature, that when you look at animals, look at lions and deer, something is happening there, which is within the movement of nature. For example, lions will chase a herd of deer, and you’ll see them running through the fields. At some point, one deer will split from the pack. He said that in nature, the deer would understand that there’s the lion’s hunger and accept that it’s probably its time. Maybe it’s one of the older ones. There’s an agreement, a sacrifice, so that’s the type of consensual that Mohanji talks about. 

He said, even if a tree is being chopped down in the prime of its life, and there’s no agreement, you can’t say it’s consensual. Now, you may think as I thought as well, how could a tree tell you: okay, chop me down. But it’s more about there’s a time in a tree’s life. I think even people who manage forests, trees, and places like that can tell when a tree is about to fall, so to clear it out of the way, they’ll chop it down. So that type of understanding, that it’s the time and it’s ready to go.

Also, this agreement should be within whatever people do, between two people who want to have those experiences. So if two people want to have an experience, and they’ve agreed, that’s fine. A collection of people want to have an experience, or maybe society wants to have that experience – that’s okay. But not by inflicting, manipulating, or forcefully doing something. That’s not okay because that is violence. 

So Mohanji doesn’t object to life experiences; if two people want to experience it, if somebody wants to drink alcohol, no problem because he says it’s them who’s having to handle the impact of it, and not himself. 

This extends to something more subtle as well; having respect for other people’s lives and privacy. So everyone has the right to their space, their privacy, and that has to be considered too. Is there an agreement that someone can enter somebody’s personal space, or is there an agreement that their time can be taken? So some more subtle aspects of that message. 

One of the main things which I asked about is relationships with others. So I’ve had relationships of various kinds, and I asked this because maybe other people are curious about this, too. Again, he said, it’s the free will of the people involved in relationships, whatever is happening there. 

But it’s important to remember, especially with people, that it’s easy to create entanglements, which are not easy to get out of. For example, two people have come together, and separation may have happened, but the feelings can still remain. You may be able to say that you’re not with that person anymore, but if we’re carrying the memories, we haven’t actually come out of that relationship. So many times, people in our life are not actually gone because the memories are still there of what we carry. 

In summary, that was about Mohanji’s lessons, which I have picked up on the do’s and don’ts of life, or the rights and wrongs. For him, the only wrong thing is violence. That’s when we’re doing things that aren’t in agreement with other beings, places, people that aren’t consensual. If we want to do something, free will is completely respected, knowing that it often comes with some sort of price.

Lessons living with Mohanji – Days 23 & 24

Day 23 Lesson – Types of connection and the importance of consistent connection 

Good morning, everybody. I hope you’re doing well. 

Today I share an observation on living with Mohanji. This is about how people connect to him, the different types of connection, and the importance of consistency in connection. This is from the conversations which Mohanji has shared. 

As a general statement, Mohanji is available; his position is that he’s a friend to the world. This means that the world can connect to him, and the world has a variety of people who have different orientations. So they connect to him as they are, and he allows that. 

My own connection with him is very much that of a mentor and a guide (to a learner/disciple). He gives me practical advice, steps on how I can become more efficient, more productive. And, in a way, this is why a large portion of the voice recordings I share have a theme of motivation or practical application in life. 

But for others, even in the house, it’s very different. It’s completely a personal connection. And what’s nice about that is that he asks nothing of anybody, and he allows everything. For Mohanji, there’s no right or wrong way to connect or to be; it’s all about us being us. And he values people’s expressions, their personal expressions, and their own experience. So, if people are satisfied with their interaction with him, he feels he’s done his job. That’s because his ultimate goal is to take people to higher awareness and ultimately to liberation. If they’re experiencing fulfilment, if they’re experiencing completion through that interaction, it’s helping them achieve that goal. 

Given the nature of my role, I see various types of people. Broadly, they fall into four main categories. The first would be those who are more devotional in nature. They have more of an emotional connection; the Bhakti; connect to Mohanji through songs, drawings, paintings, or worship. Then, there are the more intellectually inclined people, and it’s the teachings of Mohanji that they’re connected to. They are the Jnana Yogis. Thirdly, there are the people who love service. And they, the Karma Yogis, are working and contributing through the various platforms involved in organisations like Ammucare, Act4Hunger, or the ACT Foundation. Finally, there’s a very small number of people who connect to his consciousness, the consciousness behind the form of Mohanji. They are the Raja Yogis

These are the four classifications. People may be a mixture of categories, but this is generally the orientation that you can see in all the people connected to Mohanji, throughout the foundation and the family. And he’s not putting a judgment on any of them, he is allowing everybody to be as they are, and he wants to leave people free, with no bindings. Once people have a connection, what we were speaking about this morning with Mohanji, is that one of the most important things is having consistency in that connection and being focused on one point because that’s what will bring the transformation

He spoke about this in two ways. The first is that many people can come with an expectation, a condition when they approach Mohanji. They may have some type of situation in the family that they need to be resolved, something to do with a marriage, or they would like to get a job or expect a change in family circumstances with a husband, boyfriend, wife, something like that. There is generally something they’re looking to get or something to be solved by Mohanji. That’s conditional, “I come to you because I need this”. He says those types of people need to be very careful because if their expectations aren’t met, then quickly, that connection being weak, they can drop off, people leave. 

And then the second type is those who haven’t yet set their full focus in one place. Mohanji uses a story to illustrate this: you can only find water when you finally settle on one position in the ground and start digging. If you stop digging to try and dig somewhere else, you’ll never get anywhere. Similarly, people go to multiple Masters. They may feel like they’re getting more from all of them. But this is misleading because the mind is entertained. Actually, there hasn’t been sufficient connection developed for any real transfer of clarity or understanding to take place. It’s important to connect sufficiently consistently for that to happen. And so, if people are moving from Master to Master, they’re not giving it enough time for that to happen.

And, from my own experience, it’s only now that we spoke about that this morning that I could think back and recognise the point when I decided to connect with Mohanji and avoid any other distractions fully. That’s when I felt real progress was made, including me being here now and sharing a voice message like this. Because at an earlier time, when I first connected to Mohanji, I was searching, I was seeking and finding my way on who all these people were, what the world of Masters was, what a living Master was, who a guru was, etc., all those questions were all very new to me. 

And I saw many people doing things in different ways. And I remember one other Master that I was connected to, who I trusted because other people were there also. So there came the point where I was between Mohanji and this other person. Not that it was that type of comparison or judgement, but that is what was available to me. And what changed for me was when I had the opportunity to speak to Mohanji. And I asked him, “What do you do in these types of situations?”. Because I remember him saying that the right person for you, the right guide, the right Master, the right guru, however you would classify that, is the one that came to you. And so for me, both of these came. So I asked what happens in these situations? And he just said, didn’t answer it directly, but said, “One master, one tradition, one practice, that’s all you need to reach the ultimate“. And then I asked again: “But what if I didn’t ask for any of this, it just simply came?” And again, very clearly, concisely, he just said one word: “Tests”. 

So for me, that was the clear message that I, at that point, had to make a decision. And I did, I went home, I thought about it, and then set my intention and focus on increasing my connection with Mohanji. And from that moment, a lot has changed. 

So now I’m here, remembering that consistency of connection is important as well. However challenging, however tough it can be, going back to that goal, going back to that connection, is very important. So, the message that Mohanji gave today, I think, is useful for everybody: if we have a connection, it’s the consistency of connection that’s going to lead to transformation. So, if that’s conditional, or if we’re not strong in one connection but going to various other places, then it’s not likely we’re going to get the transformation we’re expecting. Because various others may bless us, but they won’t be able to do much because the pot that we hold is always moving. So it’s never steady enough for it to be filled.

Day 24 Lesson – This is why Mohanji advises feeding beings of the air, Earth, water and humans 


Hello, and good morning, everybody. 

I want to share something that I learned today, which is a deeper understanding of why feeding the beings of nature and our species is beneficial for us and those in whose name we do the feeding. 

This is something that Mohanji has always advocated as a ritual for people for nearly all troubles that we face. It’s only today that I understood a little bit more about how this benefits us. 

This morning, I went to see Mohanji to discuss the agenda for today and take to him the questions that had come overnight. Now, more often than not, Mohanji’s busy when I go into the room to see him. He’ll be on this phone; he’s handling a conversation with somebody. And he’s working essentially with someone to help them remove something. So, he’s always busy. And I don’t interrupt; usually, I sit down, and I continue my own work until he’s ready because I don’t want to disturb him. I know that something is happening. 

So, we’re in silence for some time. In the morning, as well, he’ll open his window, sit in the chair, looking out of the window there. And birds and other beings come to see him (for his Darshan). And they don’t ask much; they just take a glimpse of him; the bird will come up to the tree branch and look through, and all the squirrels on the wall do the same. And then they’re happy, and they go. 

And when we started talking today, the same happened as other days. Sometimes Mohanji will be in conversation, and then he’ll stop mid-sentence. And today, he was responding, it seemed, to a bird call. He looked out the window for some time, and then we started speaking again. This is generally how it is spending time with Mohanji. He seems to be in constant interaction with everything around him, working on many different levels, which is not so easy to perceive. 

Today, I wanted to get clarity on many questions that come to the office, the other teams, and the help desk. What’s the best advice to give to people when they contact us seeking Mohanji’s answer about the more day to day things they experience in life? Because many people want to speak to Mohanji once they reach a problem. And that’s generally when people want to connect and ask for his assistance. 

This can be about a personal problem, something happening within a relationship, or about life purpose, feeling stuck in life, or family issues or there is death in the family. And more often than not, they fall into a similar category – there’s been some disturbance, or there’s an emotional situation about a personal relationship.

And in these situations, Mohanji has always been very matter-of-fact; he doesn’t sympathise, nor does he give pity, as he believes that it cripples a person, it keeps them in the state of victimhood. And often, when people seek help, they are still bound with that emotion of the situation. And, whilst Mohanji is always there to help, he is always available for us; he can only help if people want to move beyond the situation. He says that if people would rather keep hold than let go, he completely respects their free will. He cannot and will not take the experience they want to have, the experience of that feeling from anyone.

And in these situations, for me, I always refer to his own life as an example. He faced many tragedies, many adversities, such as the loss of his daughter Ammu. And he approached this head-on; he kept walking with a deep acceptance. And he continued. Like he often says, the scars of those situations on his face show that he survived. That’s the important thing. That’s how he sees it. 

I give this context because I asked Mohanji what we can do to help the people whose loved ones recently departed. Obviously, that’s a loss, and they want to have the best transit for them on to the next place. Also, people have general challenges in their lives: the blockages, the patterns, suffocations, maybe some illnesses. 

And, for people who want to connect to Mohanji for that advice, I found that the advice from Mohanji is always consistent. I package up this advice for the team so that they can handle it as well. The primary one, with some exceptions, for all these situations is: The best remedy is to give to the worldespecially feeding the beings of nature and helping the helpless. That’s the standard advice for all those types of situations we can face in life. 

And he gave some extra understanding to me today around why feeding is so beneficial. He said that feeding the beings of nature and our own species is really the most effective way to clear blockages and also to support family members who have departed in their transit. Because when we feed in their name, they receive the benefit. According to the being fed, the grace will flow to that person and help remove any blockages or attachments that they might have had. 

We categorise beings into four categories, which is the reason why we have the Act4Hunger platform. Act4Hunger is written the way it is to cover the four beings, four categories:

  1. We have beings of the air, beings such as birds and have the qualities of space, lightness, freedom.
  2. Herein is a variety, the beings of the Earth, I don’t know all of them; these can be associated with the various earthly attributes such as planets. For example, dogs are linked to the planets Rahu and Ketu.
  3. There are beings of the water, with the quality of movement, of flow. Fishes and the water element within us are connected to all the liquids inside, such as our blood. 
  4. Lastly, we have beings of our own species, i.e. humans, and the issues here can be related to the attachments that we have, the fears, the phobias. For example, some people may have a crippling fear of old age, sickness, or helplessness, or being abandoned, which can be carried into the next life. Also, some people may be overly attached to their children. 

So, when he was speaking, and I was looking at these categories, I understood that when we have blockages or attachments, we can feed the beings of the corresponding qualities, which brings grace to remove those blockages. And we feel that grace as lightness in our life. For example, say someone in the family has passed away, and we know that they were incredibly attached to their children, that was something they were clinging on to, and they didn’t want to leave because they really wanted to stay with their children. In this case, what can be done is feeding children in their name so that grace comes and helps remove that blockage for them. 

The same goes for if they feared disease, then we can feed the sick. With helplessness, then the elderly can be fed in their name. So, we’re doing something in their name to relieve something we know can be relieved. 

And I think Mai-Tri Practitioners can see this when they do Mai-Tri for people. For example, if someone had the feeling of suffocation in life, maybe in a relationship, or had a fear, feeding beings of the air can help bring that space. Illnesses of the blood and the issues associated with the water element in the body can be alleviated by feeding the fishes. 

If I’ve completely confused you with too much information, then the best advice is just to feed everybody, feed as many people and beings as you can, cover all your bases. 

I would also say, please don’t substitute any professional medical help for what I’ve just said. This is just the deeper understanding that I got this morning. And when I heard it, it brought more clarity for me of the power and the potential of the Act4Hunger platform, which stands for the four types of beings: beings of the air, Earth, water and humans. And the vision now is really powerful because the idea is to have regular patrons for the platform who support the activities and whose face will be on the website, and so, everyday food will be served in their name. So, they’ll be receiving the grace from all that service being done in their name every day. 

Likewise, for special events such as weddings, anniversaries, etc., people can become a patron for the week. So all that week’s food service is done in their name. And the same is for someone who has passed away; feeding in their name helps them in their transition. 

However, the platform is a neutral platform. So obviously, the spiritual aspect wouldn’t be shared openly. But, if this spreads across the world, just think how many people will benefit from that, not just individuals but generations and lineages too! 

So, to summarise the understanding I got today, for various blockages and situations in life, Mohanji shared that feeding the beings of nature and our own species is a real, effective way to clear those blockages. This is also an especially beneficial way to support members of the family who departed and are in their transit. And we feed in their name. And by feeding particular types of beings in their name, the grace flows. 

So beings of the air: the birds for lightness and freedom. Then, feeding the beings of the Earth: dogs, cats, various animals linked to the earthly element; beings of water: the qualities of movement, flow, blood and our own species, feeding the helpless, elderly, the sick, children. 

So that’s all for today. Finally, I think experiencing is believing, as well. So you can experiment with this and see for yourself, maybe try a challenge for 41 days, get a bird feeder in the garden and feed the birds. See how you feel after. Or feed any other beings that are near you. Or, connect to any of the platforms such as Ammucare, ACT or Act4Hunger, which are all doing this service daily.

Day 11 Lesson – Next to the fire

I wanted to share some of my personal experiences living with Mohanji, or more appropriately, living next to the fire! I have to admit that it is not easy at times, and that is because patterns and comfort zones are being continuously broken. It is uncomfortable, and the pace and variety of activity mean plenty of situations where these surface. 

Mohanji isn’t concerned with emotions or feelings either, which means whilst he is here to guide, it’s my journey to work through. His interest is in transformation, and when you get closer to the fire, you either transform or get burnt. Transformation is your evolution, and being burnt is the comfort zones pulling you back. There is no middle ground.

There hasn’t been much time for me to reflect on my experiences while they were happening, but I hope that this message gives insight and feelings of what it’s like being next to the fire – Mohanji. 

I feel this is the same for all people working closely with Mohanji and within the Foundation. We are day by day, given the opportunity to break our patterns and free ourselves from the binding of our comfort zones.

Over the past few days, I’ve shared some general lessons that I’ve learned from Mohanji – some stories and some more information about the Foundation and the platform’s activities. And today, I wanted to talk about a personal experience – living with Mohanji. It’s been probably eight months now. And it’s related to something which Mohanji said the other day, I heard him share it, and I’d heard it before. But it prompted my mind to think about sharing this – and it’s that living with a Master is incredibly difficult. 

When you’re looking at Mohanji from afar or a Master from afar, it is fine because there’s a safe distance. But as soon as you come close, that’s when the heat really starts to happen. That’s when it really starts to turn on. And so what happens in that situation as people get closer and closer and closer to the fire? There are only two options. One is to use that for transformation, which means you have to break through patterns to break through comfort zones. Or the second one is that you get burned, which generally means running away. There’s no middle ground, especially within this path. And as he says as well – this is the path of no-nonsense. And he’s purely interested in transformation: an individual’s transformation, their spiritual growth, their evolution, however, you’d like to call it. So how they feel, how they are that day, their emotions, all these types of things are of no interest really. And I understood this quite early on when I was finding it quite hard. I now understand (from reading the books actually, I read this, and now I’ve experienced it firsthand) that the Guru or the Master knows what you need to move through whatever patterns that you have. So we are a walking, talking bundle of patterns, inclinations – everything which we carry. We’re basically an expression of our karmic baggage, or ‘garbage’, as he said the other day. We’re just walking and talking all the time. 

So they (the Masters) can see this, and they know what activity is good for you, to move you through it. Basically, to move from a state of tamas, inertia, laziness, procrastination, where these habits are binding and ruling and controlling in the comfort zones being served all the time, day in, day out. It requires selfless activity, karma yoga activity so that the weight is reduced. 

So he (Mohanji) described it this way: at the moment when you first arrived, it was as if you were on a bed and you had a big magnet on your back – you couldn’t even get up, you couldn’t even lift yourself up. So through the work that he has provided, he can at least sit up from the bed, which is a big, big effort. And so what that means is constant activity, new activity, changing activity. You start one task and then are quite quickly diverted to another. There’s another session, someone else to speak to, another meeting to arrange, another task to complete, another board to join, constantly, constantly, constantly. And there’s really no way that it’s possible to completely keep up. And that activity drives momentum. 

So quite quickly, I reached a point where I just couldn’t cope. I was becoming, ‘this is too much.’ I would be eating a lot, probably emotionally eating, which made me more tired, lazier. And one morning, we sat down, we spoke, and it was quiet. He was attending to messages. And quite out of the blue, when I thought we’re going to talk about something else, he said, “You know what is amazing – you’re here, in my presence, you’ve got activities, and you’re becoming even more tamasic. Absolutely amazing!” I was completely shocked. And the conversation followed, “If you’d like to go back to the UK, you’re more than welcome. Remember that you’re not bound here. I want you to remain free. And if it ever gets too much, I’d much rather you just say, admit it to yourself and leave everything in good order so that nothing is left untidy, because that would be really bad. So yeah, you’re free to go. But remember where you’re going back to – you’re going back to your patterns, to your comfort zones. And this is the path here of no-nonsense. You have an opportunity to transform, an opportunity to evolve. But that doesn’t mean it’s mandatory. There’s always free will. So you’ll be welcome to leave as well. So, being next to the fire, either transform – or get burned and leave.”

“Never justify Inertia. It is a self-destructive tendency. You are defeating yourself by defending your laziness.”


And this was the general message, and it made quite an impact on me. From that, I realized that work hadn’t been loaded on top of me to make me crumble. And he said that too, “My job isn’t to make you crumble at all. My job is to take you to the highest potential that you can be, it’s to take you to yourself, essentially.” And he’s been giving guidance and clarity on how to achieve that, too. So he doesn’t just give the activity or the task; he shares how it’s to be done. But generally, that will mean moving from where I am now, through a comfort zone, through a barrier, through something that I wasn’t even aware of that’s come up, some feeling, some emotions. So I can progress into that. 

And so, some things that I was personally faced with are public speaking, making videos. All these were gruelling; it felt really awful to have to pull myself out of my general habit or ego, the resistance that was stopping me from doing that – through that to actually do it. When I was in Fireflies Ashram here in India, we had yoga teacher training. Sanja would be able to tell you that it would take me ages and ages to record a video, be really worried and really fearful about what people would think. 

So in the situations that are presented, I’m having to come out of my comfort zone and address fears. Also, really look at myself. Also, at the same time, because that resistance is there, that pattern is there of not being able to overcome it, then the feelings of worthlessness come in, of uselessness. These patterns I have as well, I’m realizing. So, quite quickly and intensely, I’m presented with situations, tasks, activities where I’m able to see in an intense time period all these patterns that are put in front of me that I have. And knowing then it’s putting faith in Mohanji is the test that I’ve been given, that to just do it, not think, and drop the sense of ownership about the feeling that I will have to do this. That’s something else, which is part of the lessons that come. I think Mohanji also says that man minus ego is equal to God. So then there is a surrender element in it as well. 

All of this, day in and day out, is quite an intense, evolving, fast-paced activity. And now, looking back, I can see that. But during the time, it was incredibly uncomfortable. 

And just before I came here, actually, I developed a skin condition as well. So I’ve got a rash coming up all over my skin. When I was speaking, I think it was either with Mohanji or with somebody else here; they were saying that’s probably suppressed emotions over many lives. 

The intensity of being here is that you face in a short period of time all the things which are inside. And they keep coming. So tasks may trigger a situation, people may trigger a situation. And more recently, I found out that there was quite a lot of anger stored inside as well. So, having to navigate through those emotions and patterns which are long hidden is the reality of being close to Mohanji. 

And some people may have felt the intensity when Mohanji has a satsang or when we have a meeting with some of the teams. There’s like a burst of intensity, which generally helps push people through a momentum, like a change. So whilst it’s discomfort, it’s also quite a benefit too because Mohanji matches what he sees in front of him: it’s a mirror. So if he sees that there’s a blockage, if he sees that tamas is creeping in, or inertia in me, his intensity arises. So what might seem like someone is being shouted out or being scolded; actually it’s not. He’s increasing his intensity so that he can remove any blockage. And he does this with a lot of the teams and meetings that I sit on as well.

I can talk more about this later. Though it’s more of a personal experience today, which I’m speaking about, yet it’s still not completely settled. And I don’t think it will be for many months and even years to come. Because it’s still a period of transition, and day in day out, there are very subtle situations that occur, almost like a reflection back of what’s inside. And so I’m slowly becoming more and more aware of those as well. 

So, that’s a little information on what it’s like sitting next to the fire, that is Mohanji.
